The facilities you need to succeed

While nothing beats the stage, SFA's School of Theatre and Dance offers a variety of spaces to further our students' knowledge of the fine arts. Whether it's technologically equipped lecture halls, studios, or prop and costume rooms, students have the resources and space to create and execute their creative visions while enjoying hands-on experience.

Studios and classrooms

You can't teach theatre without changing the setting to fit the scene. Your learning spaces will vary from technologically equipped classrooms to studios, seminar rooms and even our dance and movement studios!

Turner Auditorium

The Turner Auditorium seats 800 people for performances by many of the programs of the Micky Elliot College of Fine Arts. It offers extensive support facilities for high-quality productions and is equipped with the latest equipment and technology.

Black Box Theatre

The 90-seat Black Box Theatre is a flexible “black box” space, bringing audiences and performers together for intimate shows and creative performance executions thanks to a newly renovated lighting infrastructure.

Flex Theatre

One of our newest performance spaces, the 350 seat flexible theatre has resulted in a facility with state-of-the-art technology in both lighting and sound. This theatre will serve as the primary laboratory for MainStage productions and musicals.

Upstage Theatre

The 49-seat Upstage Theatre provides students with a studio-scale proscenium theatre with lighting/sound control in a booth, as well as backstage space.

Ballet studio

Having natural light with floor to ceiling windows overlooking North Street, this large open space, with Marley floors, will be perfect for ballet dance and partnering, and potential for musical accompaniment.

Dance Performance studio

This is a flexible studio space with Marley and wooden floors that has the ability to host various technique classes, performance, and production courses, as well as being equipped for aerial dance.

This is a personalized space where dancers can participate in group classes as well as individual conditioning and somatic practices. Filled with natural light and state-of-the-art equipment, this space overlooks North Street and assists in maintaining the dancers instrument – the body.

Scenic and props complex

Our recently renovated, 5,000-square-foot scenic and props complex offers students five different construction, crafts and paint shops to design and build the set pieces and scenery that will transport the audience. With all the resources available, the only limit is your imagination.
